"I really like your video. It is very easy to follow and has great detail to the problems."
"Thank you for saving my son’s XBOX."
"Fine guide. Thanks!"
"I own a computer business, so I felt pretty confident about doing the repair if I could get the Xbox taken apart without breaking it. The video that accompanies your guide was much more helpful than just reading the instructions. I was able to open my xbox 360, make the repair and put it back together without much trouble. And it has been working perfectly ever since. The only problem I had was finding some of the parts needed for the repair. It turned out that everything needed can be found at Home Depot. Thanks for your help!!!"
"I was desperate to find a way of repairing my old 360 that was simply just sitting there unused. I couldn't simply throw it in the bin, and so i had to find an alternative way to repair it without having to send it away to Microsoft. The repair worked out error free!"
"Exactly as it did in the videos. My initial feelings after successfully repairing the 360 were feelings of proudness, knowing that I actually managed to fix it!"
"I repaired my Xbox 360 with this guide!"
"I was frustrated and needed an avenue in which to use without having to spend and arm and a leg to do. Thanks!"
"I really felt like I was buying another useless thing like the 'Just as seen on TV stuff' NOT AT ALL IT REALLY REALLY WORKS!"
"This guide is the shit!! Not only was I easily able to fix my xbox, but I didn’t have to pay to have it repaired or pay for a new machine and in fact have made a couple hundred bucks by fixing 5 other machines for other poor bastards whose xbox had the same issue. It's easy to follow too. I’m mechanically retarded so if I can do it anyone can."
"I was concerned that I may have to send it away before I bought the guide. The repair worked out very well and only took about an hour or so as I took things carefully. Once I first turned the xbox on without the fans attached I was a little worried but was relieved when turning the xbox on and see that little green light. Now I am very happy and pleased that I can overcome this problem in either my own or my son's xbox should it ever happen again."
"I thought there was no way I would have a working 360 again and I was desperate for anything. Your guide saved me in my time of need, I am eternally thankful!"

"My son was thrilled and got to be a part of the repair process... we did it in one day and the cost was insignificant."
"Thanks for a great product."
"I am thrilled with your product and even considered advertising to repair other xbox machines for additional income…this made it easy."
"I didn't think it would be possible, if Microsoft can't fix it, how could I myself? But with a 60 day money back guarantee how could I go wrong. After completing it I was like "That's it?" It worked absolutely perfect. Well worth the money."
"The repair on my son's xbox worked out great, I bought a xbox off ebay and repaired it for a back up just incase me or a friend had trouble. A week later my xbox disc drive broke with 12 days left on warranty, now I wont see it for at least 3 weeks. but for a few bucks I am still playing with my back up with no down time. Thanks for a great guide."
"Very easy to follow, very detailed. Thanks for everything."
"I was skeptical, but now that it's working again, I'm totally happy and your guide ROCKS!!!"
"Can I actually get my Xbox 360 working again with this guide?
I am very nervous about taking my Xbox 360 apart..."
You can’t sue Microsoft, but you may want to! To pay $400 on your Xbox 360 and to have it break for no fault of your own is just ridiculous. To make matters worse, Microsoft is actually charging $140 if you want to send it in for repairs, granted that is if your warranty has expired. If you are still under warranty, call Microsoft and have them take care of it for free.
When your warranty has expired, repairing your Xbox 360 yourself is your best bet. While it may seem daunting, you’ll soon see this is not the case, and you can in fact fix your system today in just over an hour (plus a 30 minute cool down period).
It will be well worth your time to look over this page and learn exactly what has happened to your Xbox 360. You will also learn what you can do to fix it.
“Microsoft charges $140 to have technicians fix my Xbox 360 and your saying I can fix it myself? I barely know how to turn on my computer, I have two left hands, know nothing about electronics, and am the clumsiest person on the planet…”
It does seem a little crazy that you can fix your Xbox 360 when technicians are charging well over a hundred dollars for it. But, when you understand the problem with your Xbox 360, you will see why you can do it yourself, and why it only takes just over an hour with a 30 minute cool down period.
Just in case you are thinking…
Hold on. Those are all valid concerns, but scan over the rest of this page. You are going to see what the problem is and why it’s a simple fix.
And for the record, the Microsoft staff will not actually tell you what the problem is, and if you think about it, it makes sense why they won’t. If you were Bill Gates (the owner of Microsoft) would you want your staff telling customers: “Just send it in and we’ll fix it” or “Our motherboard is faulty, take your Xbox 360 apart and adjust the cooling unit”. So while they won’t reveal the problem (to save face), you are about to discover how you can fix it yourself.
“Is it even worth it to fix my Xbox 360?”
Without a doubt!
Not being able to play your new games (Halo 3, GTA 4, Gears of War 2 and so on) is outrageous. You should not have to pay $140 or get a new system to play again, and you won’t when you fix it yourself.
Your online friends may be wondering where you are. It is not fun being left out of the loop. No reason to keep them waiting when you can fix it yourself now is there?
Your kids may be crying over this problem. You will be their hero if you turn those tears into cheers.
There is also the peace of mind knowing this problem is gone forever and you don’t have to worry about freezing up in the middle of your game.
All in all, fixing your system is the best option if you are out of warranty, as you have nothing to loose!
“Will us moms and dads be able to understand how to fix our kids system?”
The truth is, this repair was designed for the average young kid to be able to fix their system. You will have absolutely no problems following along with the repair and getting your kids Xbox 360 working.
At this point your kids might be driving you mad with their screams, but what better chance to be a hero? Bottom line: you can fix your kids system and they are going to be jumping for joy.
“I am just a casual, technologically challenged, gamer --- is my busted Xbox 360 situation hopeless?”
Not at all, in fact this is such a simple problem, as long as you are over 10 years old (or have a friends help) you can fix the cooling unit on your Xbox 360 which is causing this problem.
You won’t spend any time figuring anything out. It’s step by step. Check over the rest information to see why and how you can fix your system.
“So what do these red lights mean?! What problem do I have here?”
Most common is the 3 red light error. If your system is showing 3 red lights on the power button and/or an E74 error screen, you have the 3 red light error.
This is also known as:
Red ring of death
You may also have one of these other fairly common errors:
2 red lights
All of these errors are caused by 1 thing: a loose GPU (graphics processing unit).
“My GPU has come loose? What did Microsoft do this time! Why is my Xbox 360 broken!?”
While Microsoft has not addressed this issue officially, they are at fault for your Xbox 360 breaking.
Here is what happened: Microsoft was in a race (against Sony and Nintendo) to be the first next generation console on the market (after the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox). They rushed through production and ran into a problem during the final design stages.
The DVD drive was too big, and would not fit in Xbox 360. So to make room they decided to shrink the heat sink (which absorbs heat from the motherboard, and is basically the cooling unit). BIG MISTAKE.
Shrinking the heat sink turned out to be a major problem, and in one of the only press release statements made by Microsoft, they admitted “there is a design flaw in each of the 16 million consoles sold that could cause the device to fail”. This basically means anyone can get a red light error anytime. While vague on the issue, the heart of the message was there, namely “we screwed up, sucks to be you”. Great…
The good news is you can repair this relatively fast by adjusting how the heat sink rests on the motherboard.
“So what EXACTLY is happening to my Xbox 360?”
If this makes sense (and it will), you more than qualify to be able to fix your system:
Your Xbox 360 motherboard has 2 important chips on it, the CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphics processing unit).
The GPU is what processes graphics. The problem is, the heat sink (the cooling unit) that sits above it is too small. This means this chip gets very hot. As this chip heats up, the soldering (glue) that holds it becomes weak.
Making matters worse, as the motherboard heats up, it starts to flex (bend up and down). This flex action combined with the weakened soldering which holds the GPU on is what causes your problem.
As the motherboard heats up, the GPU (and sometimes the CPU too) becomes loose. Once the GPU comes loose your system freezes, and shows red light errors. Some red light errors are the result of the CPU coming loose as well.
“And I am going to fix this how? Don’t I need some super advanced technical device?”
You would think so, but you don’t. In fact, you only some basic tools: a poking device and a screw driver.
All you have to do is open the system up and adjust how the heat sink sits on the GPU and CPU. You are going to unscrew the heat sink, then put it back in a slightly adjusted position.
Then you turn the system on (with the fan unplugged) and you heat it slightly so the chips realign on the motherboard. You then turn it off, let it cool down (letting the chips harden in place), put it back together and viola, problem solved. The chips are now in position and will no longer over heat because of the adjustment you made. It really is simple.
“Don’t let your $400 Xbox 360 and $400+ collection of games turn into collection of dust gatherers”
At the end of the day, when you add up the cost of the system, downloaded content, controllers, accessories, Xbox live membership, and games, you have likely invested well over $800 in your system (maybe up to even $2000-$3000).
You might also have a decked out entertainment system which you can only use for TV now (not cool).
To let an $800+ investment go to waste over a little problem like this is crazy. Your system is not badly broken, it just needs an adjustment that anyone with two hands can fix. There are some real benefits to fixing your system yourself:
